World’s First Hydrogen-Powered Cruise Ship Floats for the First Time

Viking Libra, the world’s first hydrogen-powered cruise ship, touched water for the primary time when the vessel was floated out of dry dock yesterday.

The float-out happened on the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. Viking Libra is scheduled to enter service in November 2026 and sail her inaugural season within the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

Viking Libra is a 54,300 gross ton ship that may have 499 cabins that carry as much as 998 visitors. The ship’s propulsion system relies partially on liquefied hydrogen and gasoline cells.
