The Macallan Introduces The Tree of Life Assortment Honouring Charles Rennie Waterproof coat

The Macallan has unveiled The Tree of Life Assortment, a pair of limited-edition single malts created in tribute to considered one of Scotland’s most influential designers, Charles Rennie Waterproof coat. The discharge continues the distillery’s long-standing engagement with the worlds of artwork, design and tradition, this time drawing inspiration from Waterproof coat’s connection to nature and his distinctive visible fashion.
The centrepiece of the gathering is The Tree of Life by The Macallan, a 46-year-old single malt matured in two sherry-seasoned oak casks laid down in 1979. Simply 112 decanters have been produced, every housed in a Lalique crystal vessel topped with a rose-inspired stopper, referencing Waterproof coat’s stained-glass panel The Spirit of the Rose. The sculptural casing across the decanter nods to the artist’s signature metalwork seen in his architectural designs.
Kirsteen Campbell, Grasp Whisky Maker, The Macallan, mentioned: “This distinctive 46 Years Previous single malt, chosen to mark the age that Waterproof coat reconnected with nature, provides a singular, vibrant and sophisticated expression of The Macallan matured in sherry seasoned oak casks. Tropical fruits charred over smouldering peat embers are balanced with complicated wooden spice. Notes of vintage oak are attribute of upper aged expressions from The Macallan and evoke Waterproof coat’s distinctive designs crafted from wooden, in Scotland, a few years in the past.”
The whisky’s profile contains notes of charred tropical fruit, vintage oak and delicate spices, with a refined thread of peat smoke. Its age displays a big second in Waterproof coat’s life – the 12 months he left structure behind to give attention to portray and reconnect with the pure world.
Accompanying the discharge is Artwork is the Flower, a single malt named after a lecture given by Waterproof coat in 1902. Matured in sherry-seasoned European oak, the whisky options flavours of fig, cherry, almond and polished oak. It takes its lead from Waterproof coat’s stained-glass works and the natural varieties that outlined his interiors and paintings.
Stuart Robertson, Director of The Charles Rennie Waterproof coat Society, who collaborated on the venture, commented: “Waterproof coat had a singular fashion that continues to affect artisans and world initiatives even immediately, and The Charles Rennie Waterproof coat Society was delighted to collaborate with The Macallan on this new assortment – a real collaboration of artwork, whisky and poetry, impressed by The Spirit of the Rose.”
